My name is Audrey Cooper and I am currently an Environmental Design student at Texas A&M University, with minors in Art & Architectural History and Graphic Design. I love architecture, art, and graphic design, and I really enjoy using them together to create original designs.
Art has always been one of my hobbies, so I love that I am able to use it in my chosen career. Over the past year, I have become more proficient in graphic design using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as traditional media like pencil drawing and painting. I am currently using my quarantine time to learn to paint using watercolors and brush up on photo-editing.
Design is such a wonderful field to be a part of because of how widely it ranges and yet remains cohesive, with each focus building on another to create a beautiful and complex finished product. I find small joys in sitting in class and finding that each class I've taken connects to another, be it an architecture studio, an art class, or even the Archaelogy of Ancient Italy.
I love learning about history of all kinds, which made learning about the history of architecture all the more exciting. It used to be very common for architects to not only design a structure, but also every detail of what would go inside it. Even today there are many architects, like Frank Gehry, who still design furniture in addition to all of the other work they do. With this in mind, I take pleasure in many different areas of the design field. In addition to what I am currently studying at school, I am also fascinated with interior design because, like architecture, you interact with it every day. When putting together my own spaces, I like to draw on the ideas of Caitlin Wilson, Erin Napier, and Joanna Gaines because of the masterful ways in which they combine color, nature, and textiles together to create a cohesive space.
